Shrewsbury didnt manage to sign off the season with a win against a strong Eccleshall side.
The visitors started strongly causing problems in the scrum and using their back row to breakthrough the home defence. Things settled when Kelvin Eaton bolstered the front row and their back row eased back having been met by Mark Taplin on several attempts.
Both sides came close in the first half but it took a Chris Childs kick deep into their half to start the scoring. Chased down by Jack Sanders and Angus Mckerracher, the Eccleshall defender lost possession giving Mckerracher an easy run in followed by a Jack Pittaway conversion.
The visitors responded with an unconverted try and sneeked another 7 points before half time.
With many changes made, Shrewsbury seemed to lose some continuity and went further behind to a breakaway try and conversion. The home side rallied again and after some forward pressure Dave Roberts was driven over only for the referee to disallow the try as he hadnt seen it. Despite further attempts Shrewsbury couldn't get the score they needed and went another try down late in the game.
Shrewsburys season has now ended but are keen to recruit players new and old to ensure a regular 3rd and 4th team next season.
