PLAY SAFE - BE SAFE

Shrewsbury Rugby Club are dedicated to ensuring that all players are safe when they play rugby for this Club. That is why we have a Child Protection Policy and Codes of Conduct. The Codes of Conduct cover players, referees, coaches and parents. As a Club we intend to ensure that these Codes of Conduct are strictly followed. A full copy of the Coders are included with this Newsletter so make sure that you read them and stick by what is in them.

Everyone should be aware that we will not tolerate verbal abuse on the touchline during training or games. Any person considered to be breaking this part of the Code will be asked to remove themselves from the touchline.

To be safe while they are playing and training all players should wear the proper kit. This should consist of rugby or football boots, cotton shorts (preferably proper rugby shorts) or track suit bottoms and a suitable top or tops.

If it is cold then extra layers of clothing are essential and this could mean extra layers, waterproof, hats and/or gloves.

The safety of all our players is very important to us and so we recommend that all players wear gum shields and shin pads. Head guards are an optional extra but are recommended by the Club too. No jewellery should be worn and finger nails should always be cut short.
All players should have rugby studs on their boots. The only sort of boot that is allowed that does not use studs is one that has rubber blades. Plastic blades are banned. Rugby studs, which must be kite marked, are available at all sports shops and we even have them at the Club that you can buy. Football boots have studs that can be unscrewed and rugby studs can be screwed in to replace them.
If you are unsure about your boots ask your coach.

You must have the right studs to play rugby.

A NEW LOOK
If you have been past the Club recently you will have noticed that we now have a new roof and a fourth pitch. Finishing work to the roof and clubhouse will still be in progress at the start of the season. We can still train but we all have to be very careful that we do not go anywhere near the building site whilst work is still going on. It will be dangerous. If anyone does go on the site then we may not be able to continue training at the Club until after the work is done.
To keep the club looking good all players will be asked to use the rear 'Players' entrance when coming off the pitches after training or playing.
A lot of money has been spent improving the Club and as users and members of the Club you will be expected to respect that. The rule about no boots inside the Club will be strictly enforced to keep the Club looking as nice as possible for as long as possible. Please make sure you don't break the rules.

A NEW RULE
Shrewsbury Rugby Club is now a no smoking club. Please abide by the rule. You will be asked to leave the club house if you are caught smoking. The rule applies to the whole club.

KIT HELP NEEDED

Anyone wanting to buy a Club shirt or socks should fill in the Kit Order form and hand it to Chris Jones, the Kit Lady with a cheque or cash. When Chris has enough orders (minimum 12) she will place the order and all we have to do then is wait for the order to arrive.

The Club realises that not everyone can afford a Club shirt or wants a Club shirt and therefore tries to provide shirts for teams to play in on game days. If you are given a shirt to use on game days it is not yours to keep, it must be returned to the Club. If you have a shirt that you borrowed for a game you must give it back straight away. If you don't and you are seen wearing a shirt that does not belong to you we will ask you to give it back. As always we need your help to keep the Junior Section running.

*** Bar person wanted for match days. Volunteers required for approximately two hours work on a Sunday when we have a game. Previous experience needed. ***

How else can you help?
" As a parent you can be prepared to drive your child and possibly others to away fixtures. Don't rely on others to do this for your child.
" When games are played at home you can help with preparing or serving food. Always take your turn in helping out in the kitchen.
" You could volunteer for an organisational role in the Junior Section. We always need help with paperwork, telephone calls and general administration.
" Watch you child play games. All kids love to have their parents watch them play. Don't be a stranger on match days.

NEW FACES … and old ones
I am extremely pleased to be able to announce that we now have a new Chairman and Treasurer. Two brave souls stepped forward and said yes to the arm twisting applied. Well done and a huge thank you to them. Your Rugby Club volunteers are:
Chairman - John Line
John has previously been a coach and is also currently a referee for the club.
Treasurer - Rob Jones
Rob is also a coach with the Under 14's and successfully achieved his Level 1 coaching award in May.
Secretary - Rae Evans
Rae will be coaching Under 9's this season.
Coaching Coordinator - Graham Evans
Graham coaches with the Under 14's and is our web wizard maintaining the superb club website.
Volunteer Coordinator - Jo Murray
Jo sorts out all the ladies (and dads) in the kitchen on match days. She and her partner in crime Lin Powers also have lots of fantastic ideas to make the junior section more fun.
Kit Lady - Chris Jones
Chris is looking for an assistant this season as it will be her last in this post (her little boy is all grown up now!). Can you learn the ropes? Let Chris know if you can.
First Aid Officer - Geoff Stafford
The man with whom we cannot do without. There are so many of us now that Geoff is desperately in need of help. Please tell him if you want to give a hand. Full training given.
Dennis - Registrations Officer
will be kindly looking after all the RFU registrations for us this season.
