CHILD AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROTECTION STATEMENT

Shrewsbury RUFC has adopted the RFU Child Protection Guidelines and Equity Statement. This statement is presented in addition to those, as being a 'personal' statement on behalf of the Club. Any discrepancies arising as a result of this statement will always be decided in favour of the RFU Policies.

INTRODUCTION

The RFU and RFUW consider that all Clubs share their moral obligation to ensure that, when given responsibility for children and young players, coaches and volunteers provide them with the highest possible standard of care.

SHREWSBURY RUFC closely identifies itself with that sentiment and firmly believes that taking part in our sport should be a character forming yet fully enjoyable part of children and young people's lives.

To encourage that, SRUFC has developed guidelines in key areas in response to our 'duty of care'.

SRUFC also recognises that operating in an open, honest and caring way gives confidence to both child and parent and displays an essential maturity in the Club itself.

The key areas are:-

A) Shrewsbury RUFC recognises the responsibility we have to safeguard and promote the interests and well being and enjoyment of children and young players who resort to the Club

B) Shrewsbury RUFC recognises the value of working closely with other coaches, parents, professionals and volunteers to protect children and young players from harm and any form of discrimination

C) Shrewsbury RUFC recognises that abuse CAN take place in sport and that raising awareness and understanding of the main forms of abuse and establishing communication and reporting procedures, if abuse is suspected, will further safeguard the children, young players, coaches and all others working within the game of Rugby Football

D) Shrewsbury RUFC recognises that, to be effective, Areas A, B and C above need to be underwritten by positive Codes of Conduct for the Club, coaches, parents and players. In accepting this responsibility Shrewsbury RUFC will actively encourage, sponsor and assist all volunteers and coaches to attend courses appropriate to the level and scope of their involvement within the club.
